]]>Story Slaughter sat down with us to share her story! Story is truly one of a kind! She is currently an actress and filmmaker in Los Angeles, CA. She works for a design studio part time, which she has really started to love! Her drive and passion for her career is unbelievable. She always has a smile on her face and makes the best out of every situation. She has also started to hand write and produce films as well! She inspires us each and everyday and we are thrilled to share her story with you!
Tell us about your career.
I am an actress and filmmaker living in Los Angeles! And I also work part-time at an interior design studio – which is a lot of fun. I have had the privilege of acting professionally in plays and commercials, and am now also trying my hand at writing and producing films as well.
Tell us about your choice to pave your own path in your industry.
The filmmaking industry is pretty competitive – not a lot of people root for each other. So the way I try to stand out is by championing my friends who are pursuing the same dream as me. I see their success as my success. It makes this whole journey a lot more joyful! I also thrive on collaborating with people who inspire me. So if someone needs me on their set as an actor, a production assistant, or to hold a boom mic, I’m happy to help - no matter the role!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Gosh, hopefully on a film set, surrounded by both my peers, and creative people who make me want to be a better person. Or maybe just grabbing martinis with Greta Gerwig. Either will do.
4. What's the best advice you've ever received?
Above all - be kind.
What advice can you give to other working woman?
Be gracious to yourselves. There is still a lot of societal pressure on women to “prove” themselves in the workforce. We are capable, we are amazing, AND we have to wake up an hour earlier to do our skin care routine and make up. So, go us.
Tell us why you love fashion/arts and give us a taste of your style!
Remember in Devil Wears Prada when Stanley Tucci’s character Nigel tells Anne Hathaway that “what [fashion designers] did was greater than art because you live your life in it”? That line gives me chills. It’s so true! I love fashion because even when I am feeling deeply insecure in my body, I can put on a cute outfit that all of sudden gives me confidence, and my day is turned around.
My style could be described as a 60’s British girl who listens to Willie Nelson. I love frocks with floral patterns or plaid prints + cowboy boots and my cowhide cross-body purse.
What is your favorite Madison McKinley jewelry?
I wear both the Smith Necklace and the Bayard Bracelet everyday of my life! They are my staple pieces that I layer everything else with.
What would be your favorite way to style your Madison McKinley Jewelry?
I wear my MM Designs every day – so whether I’m working out, auditioning, or going out in Silver Lake to a new dinner spot – I am wearing at least one MM necklace and MM bracelet. But I love to layer the Smith, the Story, and the Cassidy necklaces all together - paired with a Zara midi dress and sneakers when I am bopping around town!
What is your favorite vacation spot? Tell us your favorite spots in the area!
Well I was just in New York City visiting my friend who lives in the West Village, and it was pretty magical. As an actress I love going to New York and seeing both plays and musicals, as well as going to comedy shows at Upright Citizens Brigade or The Magnet Theater. And because LA has great weather year-round, going somewhere cold feels like a vacation! We went to dinner at Lilia in Brooklyn and grabbed drinks afterward at St. Mazie. Even though these are brand new discoveries – they really are all-time favorites!
What is your favorite go to everyday outfit?
Blue jeans, black tee, Zara boots, Smith Necklace + Story Necklace, and eye-glitter instead of eyeshadow always.
Are you a wrangler girl or a levi girl?
Levi’s.
What is in your travel jewelry bag?
MM necklaces, gold hoops, and an antique gold ring with dainty rubies atop it from my grandmother.
What is your go to lip balm?
Olio E Osso No. 9 – Gives a pop of color & lasts forever.
If you had a horse, what would you name it?
Patsy Cline.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I’ve owned a guitar for twelve years, and I am just now learning how to play an F chord. It’s amazing how many more songs I can finally play.

Lee Searcy sat down with us to share her story! Lee's determination and drive for her career is remarkable. She is currently the Marketing Director of our favorite boot brand Miron Crosby. Lee is one of the most creative people we know, she recently moved to Dallas after living in New York City for several years. Her eye for design is incredible and inspires us in so many ways. We are thrilled to share her story with you!
1. Tell us about your career
I always knew I wanted to work in fashion. So many people say that, but I really did. Immediately after college, I made the move to NYC without a job. While it was terrifying, I knew it was exactly where I needed to be.
After a few months, I landed a job at Bergdorf Goodman. Working the floor there as a personal shopping assistant taught me that fashion is actually not all roses and Blahniks (no thanks to Carrie Bradshaw). While it was not always glamorous, I learned the importance of hard work and customer service and gained experience in every facet of the industry.
From there, I joined Jaya Apparel Group, where I worked in the marketing department for the brands Cinq à Sept and LIKELY. It was there that I gained my knowledge of the marketing and PR side of fashion and ultimately found my love for brand partnerships, events and the power of social media. I was fortunate to work with an amazing team of hustlers who loved what they were doing, and it showed in our work every day. Jaya was my family in the city, and I am so lucky to have learned from the incredible humans there.
After four years in NYC, I was ready to make the move back to the great state of Texas. I wanted to stay in fashion… but make it Texas, right? ;). Queue Miron Crosby – the holy grail of luxury bespoke cowboy boots. I am currently the marketing director of the brand, which is located in Dallas. Since joining in 2019, I've been able to combine all my experiences from New York into one. It has been such a dream! The team at MC is small, but SO hardworking and talented. I feel extremely grateful to be learning from boss babe founders Lizzie Means Duplantis and Sarah Means.
2. Tell us about your choice to pave your own path in the industry
I paved my own path in the industry by always doing what felt right in my gut. I try to stick to what feels like me and try not to be overly influenced by those around me. Once I make up my mind about something, there’s pretty much no turning back. I went to college in Kansas while most of my high school friends stayed in Texas. I moved to the city with no job, which was really scary at the time. I fully believe that doing things outside of your comfort zone are the things that allow you to grow the most as a person.
3. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Right now I am working (key word is working) on living in the moment. There are a lot of unknowns in my life and I kind of love the fact that I have NO IDEA where the next 10 years will take me. Stay tuned…
4. What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Trust your gut. It will always point you in the right direction.
5. What advice can you give to other working women?
No one is going to do it for you. If you want something, ask for it. If you are unhappy in your current situation, make a change. You have the power to get what you want and do amazing things. Don’t get in your own way!
Always be kind.
Go the extra mile – especially when you are just starting out. You would be surprised what a smile and “yes attitude” can do for your career.
6. Tell us why you love fashion/arts and a little bit about your style
I love fashion because it is an extension of our personalities. I don’t believe in rules. If I like it, I am going to wear it. I don’t dress for other people. I dress for myself. I love the juxtaposition of mixing feminine, flowy dresses and skirts with a masculine boot. I am a BIG shoe girl. My current obsession (obviously!) is Miron Crosby. People have a misconception that cowboy boots can only be worn to the rodeo or a tailgate at a football game. Throw them on any day of the week (just like you would your favorite Madison McKinley piece) and they will quickly become part of your uniform.
7. What is your favorite MMD jewelry?
I wear the Biddy Bracelet every single day. It is so dainty and goes with everything! I also love layering the Smith Necklace with the Bolo Necklace. All of the pieces go so well with each other and are super easy to style!
8. Favorite way to style MMD?
I love wearing my Madison McKinley pieces with a white tee, a great pair of jeans and boots. Her pieces complete any outfit I throw on. There are some styles that I wear every day (Biddy Bracelet and the Dare Necklace) and others that I can throw on to give my outfit that extra something (Susan Earrings and Bolo Tie necklace). I am currently crushing on the Louisa Shell Earrings. Major heart eyes!!
9. What is your favorite vacation spot
I love going to Scottsdale, AZ and unplugging!
10. Go-to everyday outfit
A flowy dress or skirt with a sweatshirt and my Miron Crosby boots, of course
11. Are you a wranglers or Levi’s girl?
Wranglers for boys and Levi’s for me. ;)
12. What is in your travel jewelry bag?
For the most part, when I travel I keep it pretty simple. You can always find the MMD Smith Necklace in my travel bag. It is the perfect piece to travel with and throw on – it goes with everything!
13. Go-to lip balm?
I’m an aquaphor girl for life.
14. If you had a horse what would you name it?
Velvet Elvis— I have the BIGGEST girl crush on Kacey Musgraves.
15. Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
Not sure how fun this makes me, but everyone that knows me knows that I cannot and will not eat any seafood! I can thank my mom for that trait!

Britt Towns sat down with us to share her story! Britt's passion and love for fashion and her career is remarkable. She has a heart full of gold and her style is flawless. She is one of the most talented stylist we know and an entrepreneur who has made a huge impact in the Austin fashion scene. She continues to inspire us each and everyday and we are thrilled to share her story with you!
Tell us about your career.
I initially started out at fashion design internships in New York and Los Angeles while I was studying at UCLA. After college I moved to Austin for what I thought would only be a year, but I fell into assisting wardrobe/prop stylists in town for commercial and editorial photoshoots and loved being part of that world... So I stayed in Austin and I’ve been styling wardrobe, props and interiors for ad campaigns, editorial content and lookbooks for the last five years.
Tell us about your choice to pave your own path in your industry.
Coming from a background in design, I always expected I would be more involved in creating things that were curated rather than being the one to curate them. I’ve realized that I love curating, and I love being surprised when I try something I didn’t know I could do. When a challenge comes along that seems foreign to me, it ends up being my favorite project because I am able to learn new skills I never knew existed. I love that this job allows me to work with tech companies one week and fashion lines the next week... It’s a constant learning curve that teaches you so much about yourself and how you adapt to new people and situations that are unfamiliar.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I have no clue!! I’m just riding the roller coaster of my life and seeing where it goes at this point… But I hope I’m doing something that surprises me!
What's the best advice you've ever received?
Look for joy in everything you do. Even if it seems small.
What advice can you give to other working women?
Don’t be afraid to let go of things you can’t control. It’s an opportunity to create something better.
Tell us why you love fashion/arts and give us a taste of your style!
Fashion has been my creative outlet since I can remember. The idea of creating something in your head out of nothing, and bringing it to life with simple, ordinary things is magical to me. It’s such a gift as humans to be able to analyze and decipher what went through an artist’s mind and how that artist realized it so we can tangibly feel their thoughts through art. I think being an artist is ultimately a practice of being vulnerable with your thoughts, which is something most people fear. I love art because it is fearless.
What is your favorite Madison McKinley jewelry?
The Chris Necklace is my all time favorite necklace!!! I also really love the Gardner Bolo Tie, the Stewart Ring and the Story Necklace...
What would be your favorite way to style your Madison McKinley Jewelry?
I will wear MM jewelry all day! I have personally worn them with everything from swimsuits to cocktail dresses. MM jewelry always makes you feel like the cool girl in the room. It really goes with everything-- especially a good jean and tee look!
What is your favorite vacation spot? Tell us your favorite spots in the area!
Anna Maria Island, FL is my favorite place to vacation. My family has a place there so I go there every summer. I love taking the boat out to Egmont Key to snorkel around the abandoned fort. The island has the most amazing sunsets too! The Sandbar is the best place to watch them, and their piña coladas are THE BEST!
What is your favorite go to everyday outfit?
On set, I always wear jeans (or something with pockets), a tee, Golden Goose or Supergas and The Chris Necklace… but if I’m not on set, I usually switch out my jeans for a Ganni skirt.
Are you a wrangler girl or a levi girl?
I love my Levi’s… but I could turn if I find the right pair of Wranglers!
What is in your travel jewelry bag?
The Chris Necklace, the Amelia Earrings and the Abigail Necklace are perfect for travel because I can wear them day to night and they go with everything!
What is your go to lip balm?
LaNeige lip mask is so yummy!!!
If you had a horse, what would you name it?
My horse as a kid was named Candy Bar, so I’d probably resurrect the name.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I cry in most animated films.
Lyndsey Zorich sat down with us to share her story. Lyndsey's passion and dedication to her career is remarkable. She recently launched an e-commerce store The Avenue . Not only is she a full time mom, but an entrepreneur who inspires us each and everyday to follow our fashion and dreams.
I always dreamed of having a boutique, but the new blogging world presented a unique opportunity to dip my toe into the fashion industry while maintaining balance as a mom. After I had my third and we moved houses, I felt a nudge to take my following on a new journey as my own lifestyle had evolved. Travel and entertaining became a bigger part of my everyday life, so I sought to create an online destination where I could curate everything from the fashion styles that my following was familiar with as well as home accessories, tabletop for entertaining and gifts for hostesses, housewarming and beyond.
Honestly, I wanted to be my own boss! I worked in major corporate America for years and also in politics on a presidential campaign and decided neither of those paths were my forever. I love the idea of starting something from nothing and building it completely from the ground up according to your unique vision. I’m really happy in this space.
Gosh, that’s a tough question! I think I’ll be in the same spot I’m in raising my 3 kids in Houston. Hopefully, The Avenue will be what my investor friends say, “scalable!” - ha! In all honesty, I have so many ideas for The Avenue both locally and nationally that I would love to see even a few come to fruition over the next 10.
Kill them with kindness. My mom taught me this. If somebody is rude to you or unkind, 99% of the time it’s not you it’s them. Compassion and a smile go a long way in this world.
There is never a good time to start a business, so if you have an idea, go for it and see where it leads you. Trust your gut. Even if your initial idea turns out to not be “the one” it will lead you to where you’re supposed to be!
I’ve loved fashion from the time I was a little girl. I grew up in a small town in Ohio so my first exposure to fashion came by way of mail order catalogues. I would sit at my Grandma’s kitchen table and flip through the latest catalogues, cutting out pages of things I loved and would then make collage/inspiration boards with my finds.
The Clara pearl necklace and any larger layering ones like the Smith and Georgia gold chains - so timeless and easy to pair with whatever else your outfit has going on.
I love to layer Madison McKinley necklaces. Even the most simple outfit (also my go-to white tee and denim) is chic with a pretty necklace situation!
I love Santa Barbara! It’s more of our home away from home and truly my happy place! We love to ride bikes at the beach and then pop into Brophy Brothers at the Marina for dinner. And I”d be amiss to not mention the incredible wine country; my family has a vineyard there called Alma Rosa, and it’s so magical to spend time in that setting.
In the winter, it’s a blazer, denim and Gucci slides. Summertime is a maxi dress and Birkenstocks.
Levis for sure! I still wear my Mom’s from the 80’s!
I travel pretty light when it comes to jewelry. I packed 6 dresses on a 2 day trip to the Hamptons for our pop-up last week, and the only jewelry I had in tow was what I wore on the plane! My watch, an Hermes cuff, Mignonne Gavigan pearl earring and an MM necklace stack!
I don’t really wear lip balm unless my lips are super chapped, in which case I am an Aquafor girl. I don’t leave home without Tom Ford pink dusk lipstick. TF lippies are creamy and hydrating so I consider that a double rainbow for the lips: color + hydration!
Birdie. I know that sounds strange, but I wanted to name my third child Birdie but it turns out we had a boy, so named him Jack!
I’m happiest when dance parties are involved and I’ve got a mean air guitar! ;)
The Arlington Theatre is a historic theatre that hosts comedians, concerts, and even plays movies! It’s a huge theatre with Spanish style detail. Definitely worth a visit!
We woke up Saturday and quickly grabbed breakfast on the go and headed to the Wharf! We love the marina in Santa Barbara. It’s smaller and not as overwhelming as other ports. From there we headed out for a day of deep sea fishing! Don’t let the white on white fool you...I came ready to fish!
This fish is called a Chucklehead! Love the name!
We saw a pod of 50+ dolphins! Check out my Instagram @EmilyLanders for the full video. It was unforgettable!
I highly recommend ending the day at Belmond Hotel El Encanto! We had a delicious dinner there. It’s famous for its stunning views.
Sunday we enjoyed brunch at Boathouse at Hendry's Beach, be sure to make a reservation. We then headed to shop at the Montecito Country Mart! There are so many cute shops there. Some of my favorites are Montecito Natural Foods, Poppy and Hudson Grace.
These packaged pasta’s were straight from Italy! All you have to do with them is boil them in water! Amazing!
This birdcage is at the cutest store called Poppy!
One of my favorite things about living in Los Angeles is how quickly we can get to amazing places like Santa Barbara! Traveling truly does open your eyes to inspiration like nothing else can! If you head to Santa Barbara and check out any of the above, please let us know! And enjoy every moment!

OUR MAY MM COWGIRL -- ANNABEL MASSEY
Annabel Massey sat down with us to share her story. Annabel's passion and dedication to her career is remarkable and we have always admired her style and creativity. She is also our number one fan and we could not be more grateful for her support and love!
I work in wealth management at Merrill Lynch as a Private Wealth Associate. I am also getting my MBA right now at the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University (I’m in the evening program, taking night classes during the week). The program keeps me extra busy, but I’m really enjoying the learning experiences and the amazing people I have met along the way.
During my time at SMU, I never really focused on finance or saw myself going in this direction, but when I graduated college, I wound up with a summer internship in wealth management and loved it. I loved it so much that it became full time, and now here I am! One year ago, I decided to go back to school and get my MBA, where I am now taking all the accounting and finance courses I never took in college. I’m also looking forward to taking some entrepreneurship classes in the upcoming year.
The evening program is brilliant because it enables students to apply the class room learnings to real-life work situations, and vis-versa. Compared to classes in undergrad, the teachings and acquired skills from my MBA classes are much more relevant and applicable to my everyday job. Although it’s quite time consuming, it’s been a very rewarding experience so far.
Not completely sure yet!! But definitely somewhere or something that involves creativity.
Never let other people’s negativity bring down your positivity, because being positive is beneficial to your health, your success, your relationships, and your wellbeing.
I’ve always loved fashion and style because it’s one of the best forms of artistic expression. I also love all forms of art. I enjoy using painting and designing as a creative outlet. It’s a fun way to promote an inspired, imaginative and free-spirited lifestyle. When I was younger, I liked making my own clothes and trying out new styles that were different than what everyone else was wearing. I believe that fashion is a way for people to express their originality. I also love being able to wear clothes and jewelry pieces that have different stories, memories, and meaning behind them. Whenever I travel somewhere new, I keep my eyes peeled for something to bring back home with me.
A taste of my style = comfy, cozy clothes with a neutral color palette (I never wear patterns or anything colorful or bright), and with tons and tons of gold jewelry stacked and layered.
The Dare necklace has always been my favorite! The Dorothy earrings are a close second… I literally NEVER take them off. More recently, the Clara and the Abigail necklaces have become favorites of mine from the latest Spring & Summer 2019 collection. They look perfect when paired together.
St. Barths! I love St. Barths because the beaches are gorgeous, the food is INCREDIBLE, and everywhere you go involves dancing!! Nikki Beach is my favorite St. Barths spot mainly because you get to dance on tables with great music, but also because there’s delicious sushi (which is my favorite food), and the beach is beautiful.
My other favorite vacation spot is Nantucket – it’s my happy place. I have tons of precious memories from spending summers there with family and friends, including numerous adventures with Maddy! From the sunny beach days to the magical sunsets at night, it truly can’t be beat. I can’t wait to get married on the beach in Nantucket next summer (decked out in all Madison McKinley Jewelry of course!!).
High-waisted Levis with a white tee or tank top tucked in, GG sneakers, & 10 pieces of Madison McKinley Jewelry.
LEVI GIRL. I think I have almost 30 pairs. I am obsessed.
In my travel jewelry bag I always pack the Creighton bracelet, the Stewart ring (my favorite ring!) and tons of smaller gold rings for stacking. I also pack at least 5 different Madison McKinley necklaces. I take my MM Jewelry on every trip because the pieces are perfect for any occasion.
I never go anywhere without Aquaphor! Always have it in my purse, backpack, suitcase, nightstand, etc.
I used to have a horse, and I named him Peterpan.
I am addicted to sour gummies and basically have a full candy shop (aka jars & jars of sour candy) in my kitchen at all times!

Tell us about your choice to pave your own path as an entrepreneur.
In many ways, I feel like I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. After my college graduation, I started thinking about the life I wanted to build, and I realized that my fear of never giving myself the chance to pave my own path far outweighed all other fears. So, I decided to go for it!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In ten years, I envision myself as a mentor to aspiring entrepreneurs. I recently started taking daily notes on the things that worked well and the mistakes I made. Hopefully in ten years, this will be valuable to others. I also see myself working on another business and investing in startups.
What's the best advice you've ever received?
Always trust your intuition.
What advice can you give to other woman entrepreneurs?
Align your north star and pursue it with conviction.
Protect your energy.
Build a strong community of women entrepreneurs. I am so grateful for the support I receive daily from fellow female founders!

I love slow fashion particularly and pieces that evoke memories. Whether it’s the place that I discovered the product, or the designer’s story, it makes me happy when what I’m wearing triggers a meaningful connection. In terms of style, I love Parisian-inspired brands like our resort wear label Amaio – feminine and timeless.

Flight Social Media offers turnkey social media account management and content creation for charming, creative, cool & kind companies. Emily has also been a huge asset to the Madison McKinley team, we have been so fortunate to have her help and guidance.
I run a social media company called Flight Social Media that I started in 2014! We create and execute content for small businesses, which include restaurants, boutiques and startups. We’ve even had a politician as a client!
After working in corporate in New York directly after college my board of directors approached me with a concept that I couldn’t turn down! It meant I had to move from my beloved New York to Waco, Texas but it was worth the risk to become a CEO at age 23.
My husband and I live in California (native Texans) right now and love it! I could definitely see us being in Los Angeles long-term but we’ll see what happens. In 10 years I hope to have grown my businesses to it’s maximum potential, travelled a bit and have grown our family! I could also see myself continuing to assist startups in social media or whatever new tech idea there is by then!
Savannah Guthrie gave me some of the best advice I’ve ever received! She told me (as an intern in New York at the time) to enjoy every moment but also to be the one who goes above and beyond for others in the office and to always be looking for ways to serve behind the scenes.
First and foremost, I would say GO for it! Don’t wait! If you have an idea or a passion you can’t shake, it probably means you’re not supposed to!
From a young age my Dad, who is an artist, always encouraged my siblings and me to be creative. Whether that meant painting, drawing or making up a song, we could always entertain ourselves! I also believe growing up in Texas gave me a love for the great outdoors and animals. Overalls were my go to as a child because they were easy and I could climb a tree if I needed to! That same sense of comfortable casual cool has followed me to Malibu.
The Dare Necklace is the first piece I feel in love with, next was The Ford Ring!
Pile them on! I love how Madison brings such a unique but timeless style to each design. She’s truly gifted!
It’s a tie between our honeymoon resort, Jade Mountain in Saint Lucia and our dog’s namesake, Maui! Both islands are beautiful. If you’re staying in Maui, Wailea is a must!
Since I work from home and often make afternoon trips to the beach for a stroll with our golden doodle, I like to keep it casual with jeans and a long sleeve (gotta stay protected from the SoCal sun!) cotton button down.
Wrangler!
I love traveling with MMD! The Dorothy Earrings and the O’Hara Necklace are my go-to travel pieces. They both move from day to night effortlessly.

Looking for a romantic spot with delicious and authentic cuisine? Ten Con Ten is the perfect spot to wine and dine at! Pro tip: You’ll want to make a reservation; you won’t be the only one hoping to get a seat! Ten Con Ten stays busy…and for good reason!
Amazonico, think West Hollywood meets SOHO, in less than 3 months after its inauguration, the Amazonico Restaurant has became THE hot spot in the Spanish capital. In short, the place is wonderful, original and with a completely different decor from everything you’ll see in classic Madrid. The quality of the food is fantastic which makes it a perfect fusion.
Inspired by old Madrid Grocery stores, the popular, bright and original, Quintin Restaurant is a stylish spot with the perfect backdrop for your dining photos. Decorated with warm colors, the bar and high tables lend themselves to informal snacking, while the large windows invite you to taste the delicious menu. Life bustles in this populated corner of Jorge Juan street. Come by Quintin for brunch before exploring, you’ll be glad you did!
La Trainerais, unlike some of the restaurant we’ve mentioned, is an old school and traditional spot. Some say La Trainerais is the best fish restaurant in Madrid! Like Ten Con Ten, you’ll want to plan ahead with a reservation.
Streetxo is worth a visit! This famous Michel star restaurant is absolutely fabulous. The Madrid restaurant is on top of department store on Serrano. You can’t book a reservation but can often go early to secure your seat with no issue. Enjoy great food but beware the music is loud, easy to ignore thanks to their great cocktails and handsome waiters in straight jackets.
Looking for a fantastic lunch spot? Arzabal is our obvious recommendation. It’s a traditional yet recently renovated restaurant with market cuisine. Arzábal invites guests to enjoy traditional cuisine, create unforgettable memories and experience a tapas bar like never before. Fabulous wine selection as well!
Habanera is one of the newest bars on our list! While the drinks are delicious, you may want to grab snacks elsewhere. Great décor, perfect spot, lots of fun! This place is truly best for drinks.
Marieta is the place to see and be seen. Marieta is a very cool spot with a fun vibe. Work benches, platforms at different levels, a private table with two fireplaces, several bars and at the heart of the premises: is the kitchen, with a central island where guests can see how the different dishes are made. Enjoy your Marieta's experience!
Regardless, you can't go wrong in Madrid. We hope you enjoy exploring when you travel to one of the most beautiful cities!
All the love,
The MM Team
Founder of Ahl Collective , a travel consultancy specializing in highly tailored authentic experiences.
Travel and experiences are always on people's minds, especially millennials. They want to explore and connect with people around the world in a genuine way. Sophia Ahl, founder of Ahl Collective sat down with us to share her story on why she believes in her travel consultancy company she recently launched.
Ahl Collective is a network of trusted travel advisors, translating our clients’ visions into memorable, authentic experiences around the world.
My childhood experiences fueled my love for travel - from visiting family in Colombia, weekending in the Pennsylvania countryside, to exploring and living in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Among friends and family, I’ve always been the go-to person for vacation destinations, off-the-beaten-path experiences, local restaurant recommendations, and really anything travel-related.
In recent years, occasional personal trip planning grew into frequent, full experience-planning for family, friends and colleagues. As the number of trips grew, the ideas started flowing, my city guides and itineraries became more sophisticated and user-friendly, and my business was born. I’ve always had the entrepreneurial bug, so starting a business was something I was excited about and ready to take on.In 10 years, I see my self serving a loyal group of clients, and leading educational trips around the world. So many countries are heavily mischaracterized by things like poverty, conflict, drug trade, you name it (a great example is Colombia, where my family is from). I hope to give people the full picture through these educational experiences, incorporating service, cultural immersion, and leisure.
“Don’t postpone pleasure” - Hank Smith
My best friend’s dad always says this - I laugh when I think about it, but it’s a good rule to (responsibly) follow! We invest so much in our work, our homes, on our accountants, financial advisors, doctors, gym memberships, the list goes on. It’s so easy to get caught up in our daily responsibilities that we forget to invest in what really matters: what brings us joy, a date night, a big family dinner, a weekend away, or a great adventure abroad. That’s at the core of Ahl Collective’s mission: helping you plan your quality time, so you can focus on the people you're with and the place you’re in.
Don’t be afraid to give it your all! It really takes guts to put yourself out there and build a business, so you should be proud of it. Sarah Blakely, founder of Spanx, says it best: “Failure is not the outcome. Failure is not trying."
Arts & design bring a lot of color to my life - I love collecting unique things (books, artwork, photography, jewelry) and incorporating them in some way in my apartment to add to the space.
My style is pretty simple - I tend to stick to a few staples (leather sneakers, booties, cozy tees, a cool jacket & a good pair of jeans) and dress it up with light jewelry depending on where I’m going.
I have a delicate emerald & gold necklace that I never take off - my fiancé gave it to me when we were first dating, so it’s something I cherish. I love layering Madison’s necklaces on top - it’s hard to find a combination that doesn’t look good!
My absolute favorite place in the world is Zermatt, Switzerland. During ski season, my favorite lunch spot is a ski-in restaurant called Chez Vrony, which has breathtaking views of the Matterhorn, icy cold beers and an amazing rösti. In the summer, nothing beats homemade cinnamon ice cream at Zum See, just a short hike from town.
Jeans, booties, a t shirt and a cool jacket.
A Levi girl (love my RE/DONE levis)!
A pair of fun Jennifer Miller earrings (for dressy occasions), a simple pair of studs and my MM Creighton Bracelet & Cassidy Necklace!
Labello lip balm!
Lucky Charm- that was the name of the horse I grew up riding!
I have a rescue kitten named Torchy. I got him from Best Friends Animal Society - if you’re ever interested in volunteering, fostering, or adopting, BFAS is an amazing organization to work with.

Is it just us or are you also wondering where summer went? June and July flew by We’re trying to hit pause on August and savor a few more summer nights....
]]>Even as summer comes to a close, there’s so much to look forward to this fall! Today we’re chatting about getting back to KOOL with Madison McKinley as another school year is upon us.
These 5 looks, paired with our jewels, will keep you staying #MadKool all semester long!
There is one thing we have been excited about all summer long. The return of sweaters! One of the easiest pieces to throw on with jeans, shorts, boots, dresses, you name it, sweaters pair perfectly! The above Merel Funnel Neck Crop is the perfect top for many of our pieces, short and long necklaces would go nicely with its atheistic. Our Sterling Necklace and Ranger Necklace are the perfect pieces to begin with, then... layer up!
Back to school means fall is just around the corner! Red is the perfect color for every season and this blouse transitions from the end of August to the beginning of September, flawlessly! We would pair this short sleeve blouse with our Dorothy Earrings and our Mini Creighton Bracelet. The Dorothy Earrings add a romantic touch and the Mini Creighton Bracelet adds some flare to an otherwise sophisticated and simple look.
Does back to school ever make you feel nostalgic for simpler days? It does for us. A simple school uniform made some of our lives easier when we were young, always knowing our wardrobe, Monday through Friday! This pick symbolizes that simplicity. Appropriately named, The Harvest Dress. Yes, please.
We’d pair this look with our Lee Necklace and Ford Ring. Keeping it KOOL.
Pretty in pink! This last look can go from class, to lunch, to a football game.
We love the detailing on The GREAT.’s Zig Zag Bobble Cardigan. Spice it up with your favorite dress or go with a more laidback look like the above with comfy joggers and your favorite printed boot. Our Eastwood Ring, Jill Necklace and Malone Necklace will be the perfect addition to this fun look!
We'd love to see how you are styling your #MadisonMcKinleyJewels as you head back to class. Don't forget to tag us so we can share it and inspire others!
All the love,
The MM Team
]]>The collagen craze is alive and well, and our August MM Cowgirl, Sally Kim, was ahead of the curve on this wellness trend when she started Crushed Tonic. Sally sat down with us to share her story, which is sure to inspire you to not only nourish your body inside and out but also with her savvy business advice as a self-starter in the skincare industry.
Tell us about Crushed Tonic.
Crushed Tonic is an anti-aging ingestible skincare beverage brand formulated with marine collagen, probiotics, biotin and flavored with popular superfoods like matcha, turmeric and lucuma.
Tell us about your choice to pave your own path as an entrepreneur.
It wasn't necessarily my choice to become an entrepreneur. I discovered the power of collagen after getting severely burnt when I had to find ways to get my skin to heal and regenerate as quickly as possible. I became obsessed with getting everyone around me to take collagen once I saw all the benefits I was seeing in my skin, hair and everything else. I was evangelizing it to all of my friends and family around me, and that passion is what led me to found Crushed Tonic and write my upcoming collagen-based cookbook called The Collagen Glow. I still sometimes can’t believe that my brand is able to bring collagen to so many people who never even knew what it was — I feel incredibly lucky each time I receive an email or note from my customers who have benefited from its effects!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Giving back — helping students achieve their dreams and build their own companies.
Writing more — answering people’s questions about their skin woes and how various remedies (whether it be collagen or CBD) can help them.
Founding a foundation — for women and men who struggle with eating disorders, the same way I did when I was a teen.
What's the best advice you've ever received?
“Stop trying to persuade everyone that you are not going to fail.”
Some people — investors, partners, customers, friends — will never understand your product, your vision or your market. You shouldn’t be spending time trying to prove to everyone that you are right or to persuade them that you are not wasting your time. No one else is as invested in your company as you are — believe in it, and execute on it.
This advice came from being bummed out at the start of founding Crushed Tonic when many investors told me that the anti-aging supplement market is too niche and small for their interest — it was too “small of a fish to fry,” they said. I moved forward confidently knowing that anti-aging is a $300B market and supplements are over $445B. To put things into perspective, the men’s shaving market is $15B.
What advice can you give to other woman entrepreneurs?
“Don’t just follow a brand from far away. Reach out to the founder — even if you’ve never met them — and offer to add value in some way without asking for anything in return.”
Don't be scared to reach out to those who have inspired you, and let them know exactly why you were inspired. They may or may not respond, but if they do, do your best to become absolutely invaluable to them. You will learn so much from simply watching and listening to them, and if they learn anything from you, you’re doing something right. There’s probably at least one way you can try to help them achieve their next goal, whatever it may be—and who knows—you may become so integral to their company that they ask you to come onboard. If that’s not the case, you can still garner a great relationship and get to personally work with your own source of inspiration.
Tell us why you love fashion/arts and give us a taste of your style!
I’d say tomboy, sporty, with a touch of outlandish—like a camo jacket, pleated leather skirt, and khaki thigh-high boots. I also love to mix and match textures and fabrics that you usually don’t see together.
What is your favorite Madison McKinley jewelry your own and why?
The Dare Necklace — it adds edge to any outfit!
What is your favorite way to style your Madison McKinley Jewelry?
Layering the thin gold chains on top of one layer of color.
What is your favorite vacation spot? Tell us your favorite spots in the area!
Bali—it’s a truly energizing place. I love the black sand beaches there, and hanging gardens is an amazing place to get deep tissue massages (in the middle of the forest)!
What is your favorite go-to everyday outfit?
A crop top and joggers or cargo pants with high tops.
Are you a Wrangler girl or a Levi girl?
A Levi girl — I love vintage Levis!
What is in your travel jewelry bag?
My favorites are my Miansai cuff, all-metal band watch by Uniform Wares, and this Chan Luu wrap! And of course, my Madison McKinley's!
What is your go-to lip balm?
Right now my favorite lip product is by Fred’s— it’s super hydrating and beautifully pigmented.
If you had a horse, what would you name it?
Zephyr.
Thanks for joining us In the Saddle as our August MM Cowgirl, Sally! See below for her website, book (available for pre-order now!) and online features.

We've all come home from a vacation feeling like we didn't even take one due to the chaos, hiccups and logistics so common during travel. Rarely does that happen when returning from time spent at the ranch, so we searched high and low for the best hotels with ranch vibe rooms. The cities range in size—from quaint Charleston to bustling Brooklyn—but you're sure to find a suitable suite for your next truly recharging trip.
North Carolina is known to be an oasis on the East Coast, and more and more people have been drawn to Asheville as a tranquil place to enjoy Southern food, mountain views and outdoor adventures. There, the Grand Bohemian Hotel embraces the relaxing spirit we so enjoy at the ranch. Located in the heart of the main village, the property rests underneath the Blue Ridge Mountains. You’ll notice the North Carolinian hospitality as soon as you walk in and spot the large fireplace adorned with animal heads and hides covering the lounge area. Styled after an old world hunting lodge with European influences, we love the idea of exploring Asheville by day and staying here by night.
It’s no surprise that a hotel with the namesake Urban Cowboy makes our list with outposts in both Brooklyn and Nashville, two cities we love for design inspiration. Both locations have only a handful of unique suites; we’re partial to The Tower in Nashville and The Treehouse in Brooklyn. No matter which city you choose, your space will provide the perfect escape to the fast pace of the surrounding city.
Situated on Austin’s most historic street, South Congress, Hotel San Jose has that calm, cool and collected vibe Austinites embody. Live the lifestyle enjoyed in the open pastures of a ranch by relaxing in their courtyard. In lieu of showy flower arrangements, cacti and other greenery graces the outdoor hallways and shared spaces. The rooms keep it to the bare necessities, another luxury of ranch life.
Right off the plaza with all the action lies the iconic La Fonda in Sante Fe. Like most ranch grounds, the historic elements here will not go unnoticed with artisans having lodged here for over 400 years. Walk the nearby trail, savor the Southwest character and decor, and shop the outdoor markets. Be sure to book a terrace room to enjoy the beautiful views of the Old Town.
The ranch fuels our creativity, and we think a stay here would do the same. A historic hotel in an equally historic town, The Restoration encourages the ideology of The New Americana: creativity, history, authenticity and innovation. Relax in the rocking chairs on the front porch, explore the art-filled grounds and enjoy the the city from above at their rooftop pool.
Celebrate a combination of Old West comfort and new world class in Aspen’s Hotel Jerome. The personnel adorned in cowboy hats, leather accents in the elevator coach and cocktails at the Antler Bar are only a few of the elements that give you a rancher’s state of mind. A stay here is both cozy in the winter ski season and cool in the equally popular summertime. You’ll enjoy being in the heart of town and within walking distance to the wide open spaces Colorado has to offer.

As you’ve seen in our Rome City Guide, ‘Eats and Sips,’ the MM team loves to live out the motto, “Work hard. Play hard.” Where better to play, shop, eat and unwind this summer than in Italy?
Since we’ve already shared our favorite spots to grab drinks, pizza, or enjoy a classic Italian dinner with sunset balcony views, we thought why stop there?
Today, it’s all about coffee, gelato and the sights to see as you enjoy them both!
But first, coffee.
One of the best coffee shops we can recommend is Eustachio, which is walking distance from the Pantheon. Be sure to get some marron glacé. You can buy the pods to go. Insiders scoop: They will fit in your Nespresso and are like rocket fuel. Goodbye energy drinks, hello perfect souvenir!
“While in Italy, every day is a good day for Gelato!” - Marisa Tomei
Next up? Ice-cream! Also known as Gelato.
You’ll never forget the smells and delicious tastes at Giolitti! It’s just a short walk from one of our favorite hotels, Hotel de Russie. Gelato is the perfect way to indulge after a day of exploring. Giolitti is open Monday – Sunday from 7am to 1am.
Another delicious stop on our list is Ciampini piazza in Lucina. The Ciampini family’s business dates back to 1941 in the heart of Rome. Their businesses have always been welcomed in historic parts of Rome and picturesque streets, such as Piazza Navona with the famous “I Tre Scalini,” as well as Via Frattina in the 50s and finishing in the striking Piazza San Lorenzo in Lucina!
*Are other members of your group craving more than just gelato? With its full menu, Ciampini piazza serves much more than just gelato. This is a great stop for a wide variety of options.
After being energized by caffeine and Italy’s decadent sweets, we’re ready to do some sightseeing! May we recommend an afternoon at Galleria Borghese and gardens, or perhaps an unforgettable tour of Sistine Chapel and The Vatican? The Trevi Fountain and Pantheon are some of Rome’s most notable tourist attractions.
Insider Scoop: You’ll want to do the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain really early if you’re looking to get a decent photo.
A great option for a less crowded experience is The Keats–Shelley Memorial House. Situated at the foot of the Spanish Steps, just a few steps away from Spagna metro station, the Keats-Shelley House is a museum dedicated to the English Romantic poets, who were spellbound by the Eternal City.
Should you find yourself at one of these spots this summer (lucky!) be sure to tag us on Instagram. Arrivederci!

Whether you’re traveling around the world and need a book to keep your jet-lag at bay or you’re beach bound and ready to snuggle up on the sand, these summer must reads will keep you entertained all summer long!
Chances are likely if you click through Instagram long enough this book will show up on one of your friends stories. A popular read for anyone looking for a storyline that keeps you hooked even after you put your bookmark in place.
When New Yorker Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, she envisions a humble family home and quality time with the man she hopes to marry. But Nick has failed to give his girlfriend a few key details. One, that his childhood home looks like a palace; two, that he grew up riding in more private planes than cars; and three, that he just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor.
As Nick's plus one, Rachel may as well have a target on her back the second she steps off the plane, and soon, her relaxing summer turns into an obstacle course of old money, new money, nosy relatives, and scheming social climbers. Another reason you'll want to grab this book sooner than later? The making of a major motion picture is already on its way!
The Bush Twins, also known as Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Pierce Bush, take you on a journey through their wild and wonderful life in this fun memoir. From their childhood in Texas to White House memories and years at The University of Texas, they touch on it all. One element of this book I found endearing was a look into the lesser known of their grandparents, Laura Bush's family, The Hawkins of Midland, Texas.
The sisters love for their family, country and each other is heartwarming and will have you cheering for them all the way through.

Summer is for long days outside. Whether it’s on the beach, playing tennis, at the lake or in the pool, more likely than not, your skin is more exposed during this season than any other, making the summer season the perfect time to revamp your skincare routine- or create one! We also know that Madison McKinley Jewels are best paired with glowing skin!
Here are our favorite summer tips to help you create a perfect facial routine that can last all year round.
Mom usually knows best and when it comes to summer skincare tips, we’re resorting back to our younger years when lathering sunscreen on was a prerequisite for a beach day. Consider this an encouragement to lather up this summer, as there’s no greater reversal for skin damage than covering up BEFORE it happens. Try out Coola Sunscreen, they use as many natural and organic ingredients as possible to bring you the purest, most eco-conscious products.
Don’t forget your lips! This Coola lip balm will keep your lips soft and smooth during a dry summer.
Stash a bottle of face mist in your cooler so you can mist your face and body when you're by the pool.
As much as we love baseball caps for a summer walk or lake day, they won't protect your face from sun coming at an angle. Opt for a hat with a brim for full protection.
This DIY recipe makes use of firming caffeine, nourishing sesame oil, and purifying eucalyptus.
Beach Body Scrub
Makes 1 1/2 cups, three treatments
• 1/2 cup fine-grain sea salt
• 1/2 cup finely ground coffee beans
• 1/4 cup sesame oil
• 1/2 teaspoon (about 20 drops) eucalyptus essential oil
In a small bowl, mix the salt, coffee, and sesame and eucalyptus oils. Use the scrub in the shower, massaging it into damp skin. Rinse well.
I can't pick only one, so I will pick three! My favorites are Sundance and Mini-Sundance necklaces with all the colorful jewels. Like many of Madison's pieces, they can make a simple t-shirt and jeans look perfectly put-together and effortlessly stylish. These are also great because you can layer them with other necklaces, like one of Madison's simple gold chains.

I also am in love with the Dorothy Earrings — the gold hoop earrings with the pearl. The pearl is gorgeous and it makes the earring more delicate and different from your classic gold hoop. And during our shoot, I realized the versatility of these earrings. The pearl is detachable, so the earring can be your go-to gold hoop or a beautiful earring with the pearl. It's like having two earrings in one. I'm a fan!
Ever since I was little, I always enjoyed creating and crafting things. So I began photography as a hobby as it allowed me to create something. So initially, photography was a creative outlet for myself. But as I've gown my business, I've realized that it's also a way for me to meet new people and connect with people in a new way.
Not until recently did I decide to pursue photography full-time. It began as a hobby shooting landscape photography, mostly beach photos when I was home and random city landscapes when I was traveling for tennis. I started my own photography Instagram, where I met a lot of people and new clients, which led me to start my own business and follow my passion. But as a self-taught photographer who studied business and marketing in college and in grad school, there's still a lot to learn!
I loved seeing Madison style Abby (our wonderful model!) and the attention to detail she had for every outfit, hat, and jewelry option that she picked. It amazes me how Madison puts together outfits and pairs them perfectly with her jewelry. She has a clear vision of her brand and most importantly, she empowers the people she works with, which makes for a really fun shoot!
My parents are my biggest influence. The love they show their children and the love they share is an amazing thing. I have always looked up to them and they have always shown me the importance of family and good friends.
When your partner is a professional tennis player, being able to work and travel is difficult to do. So I looked for a job that I could do while on the road and something that I loved to do. Photography allowed for both. No matter what country or timezone we may be in, I can set up shoots with clients or just explore the city with my camera. It's tough at times, but I'm happy I can travel and support Steve, while working and doing something that I love.
I wanted to be a professional basketball player. My mom made me a Cheryl Swoops jersey out of felt for Halloween because there weren't any WNBA Houston Comets jerseys in Los Angeles haha.
I love the Fresh's Sugar Lip Treatment. It moisturizes, tints and has sunscreen. Also, Kai Body Lotion is heaven in a bottle and the gardenia scent reminds me of home.
Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer - Oil Free is my go-to. It's light on your skin but provides a certain amount of coverage and it has SPF in it too!
I currently use a Canon 6D. I believe that anyone who wants to take pictures and has a passion for photography can be a photographer. I agree with the idea that the more you shoot, the better you become. No matter if you're shooting on a $100 camera or a $10,000 camera, you can always improve your skills and create your own style.
I LOVE podcasts, so I would have to say my phone. My favorite ones are Oprah's Super Soul Conversations and TED Radio Hour. And if you haven't listened to Serial Season 1, go do so now!
I love that there is always more to experience and more to learn. There are constantly new techniques to learn, new places to shoot and new people to meet. This sense of opportunity motivates me every day.

Summertime is upon us and while most of us live where summer comes and goes, those lucky enough to call Malibu home, have a different approach on summer- it’s endless! Whether you are looking for a secluded beach to relax on, beautiful waves to surf, a delicious brunch with stunning views or a hike to get your heart rate up, you can find it all in The Bu.
Below you will find a few of our favorite spots and destinations in and around Malibu as told by Emily Landers.
If you’re planning a visit to Malibu, don’t forget to stop and smell the flowers. June is the perfect month to see vibrant hillsides filled with wildflowers after ‘May Gray’ brings afternoon showers.
Planning a lunch meeting in Malibu? Malibu Beach Inn’s menu will satisfy any craving! With ocean views and a picture-perfect backdrop of Malibu’s famous pier, this lunch might last longer than you planned on.
Head south to Marina Del Ray and take a catamaran north to see Malibu from the sea! We did this for a special occasion and it’s still a trip our family talks about. Our boat had two rooms and a restroom on board. Sail all day long by bringing your own snacks. Let the anchor down and take a swim. You won't want to forget your SPF.
A day trip into the city isn’t complete without a stop at The Pink Palace, Beverly Hills Hotel that is! The iconic Beverly Hills Hotel is just a quick trip into the city from Malibu. If you’re looking to grab a bite, The Polo Lounge is the perfect option to get dressed up to see and be seen.
Malibu Farm at sunrise. Explore the beaches of Malibu at dawn or dusk and prepare to be amazed at the movement in the water, surfers, dolphins, seals and even seasonal whales all come out to play. There is simply no better way to begin the day.
Cozy overcast afternoons in Malibu are better at Surfrider! This is the boutique hotel is the first of its kind in Malibu. It’s the perfect spot for a walkable vacation, just steps away from shopping on the pier, Aviator Nation and some of Malibu’s most famous beaches.
Making a trip this summer? Let us know! We’d love to see you at some of the above spots. #madisonmckinleyjewels #madisonmckinley
We live in the land of oil and cattle, so the odds of a ranch wedding invite are high. Maybe elsewhere you would be tempted to interpret this destination with “hoedown picnic” style, but in Texas, leave the denim and diamonds at home. Typically, you can expect an outdoor ceremony and a tented reception which means it will be hot. Forget about stilettos: men can don alligator skin cowboy boots under their tux but for women, we suggest a block heel or wedge paired with a flowy dress that can pick up a breeze. Layered accessories enhance the cowgirl chic style—emphasis on chic. The best part about a ranch wedding? No noise ordinance, so the party can last until the roosters crow.
Shop these looks at the D Weddings shop.
The epitome of western chic, Madison McKinley Isner designs jewelry with a serious cowgirl edge. Dallas born and raised, her pieces are handmade in Texas and at her family ranch in Wyoming. Her designs relate to a ranch hand, a city strutter, and every girl in between. Madison accessorized the five looks above using pieces from her own collection and we got to know a bit more about the urban cowgirl.
Tell me a little bit about yourself and your design background?
I’m a cowgirl at heart, but I live in the city! I have always had a passion for arts and design. At the age of 15, I began making jewelry as a hobby which has now turned into a full-time career. Through traveling around the world and summers spent on my ranch, I gained an appreciation and passion for mixed vintage cultural inspirations with subtle modern touches. I studied Fashion Design at Parsons in New York and Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin. I launched my brand in 2017 with the goal of creating handmade, artisan pieces that are timeless, functional, and unique.
Where does your biggest inspirations come from?
My biggest inspirations come from nature and my family! More specifically, my family ranch located in Buffalo, Wyoming. I find so much peace and happiness at Steerhead; it is a great way to get away from my everyday life and focus on design. Mixing genres and blending boundaries within my jewelry was inspired by both of my grandmothers. One grandmother interested in art and the other in fashion. I have spent a lot of time in my grandmother’s studio painting, sketching, and designing my collections. I am fortunate to travel and pull inspiration from different parts of the world. I think stepping out of my comfort zone really gets my mind going and I always come across new things and ideas.
What is the process for designing your pieces?
I do not always have a clear direction when designing but I know what I am going for. One design pathway is as simple as I have an inspiration—like my grandmothers charm bracelet—and I run with it! Another path is starting with the materials whether that means creating from found materials or forming molds of unique finds. Continually trying different combinations and not being afraid of trying something over and over again is important to me. I love to sketch out my designs and then play around with how to make them come to life. I have partnered with Shelby, a blacksmith who works with on my ranch, to create handmade pieces from my ranch in Wyoming. I love mixing vintage and modern pieces to create one of a kind rustic-meets-city pieces to fit in every woman’s jewelry box.
I heard you recently got married, congratulations! Did your wedding day reflect the same style as your brand and did you wear any of your pieces throughout the weekend?
Thank you so much, it was truly the best weekend of my life! For my rehearsal dinner, my outfit definitely reflected the same style as my brand. I wore a Carolina Herrera tulle skirt with a sweater and my cowboy boots— it was my inner cowgirl coming out! For my wedding day, however, my style had ranch undertones but nothing direct. Of course I layered in my jewelry when I could, like at brunch the day after my wedding and in-between wedding events.
What is unique or special about your brand?
All of my pieces are handmade at the Steerhead Ranch or in Dallas, Texas. Our brand provides jewelry for a girl who wants to be part of something bigger than herself because there is a journey, whether it be domestic or international, behind each piece of jewelry we offer. Our pieces are unique and timeless, just like our girl, which means our jewelry will never go out of style and will forever be cherished and loved. I also have a huge passion for giving back, so I collaborate with other artists, entrepreneurs, and brands to create pieces that give back to different organizations and charities. You can shop my most recent collaboration with Much Love Sophie, a blogger based out of Dallas, on my website. Proceeds from our collaboration are going to Family Legacy, an organization also based out of Dallas. Lastly, I think being true to who I am and ensuring our company reflects passion, kindness, and loyalty is key. I would not be where I am today without my incredible mother. She is always by my side and bringing ideas to the brand. I am also fortunate to have an incredible team scattered all throughout the United States.

]]>Los Angeles Visit
Veronica Beard recently opened their Melrose Place store in Los Angeles, California. In the heart of the Melrose Shopping Center, the store’s design embodies a cool, Californian lifestyle. Melrose Avenue is a shopping, dining and entertainment destination that starts on Santa Monica Boulevard, the border between Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, and ends on Lucille Avenue in Silver Lake. Its most famous section, known as the Melrose District, is the West End through West Hollywood and Hollywood. We loved the decor of the Melrose Store, it was so beautiful and felt very LA. We partnered with Payton Sartin, Kristen Richie, two local Los Angeles bloggers, and Alexis Vitenas to host the Los Angeles trunk show. We had a blast working with them and loved visiting one of our favorite cities.
Dallas Visit
The Veronica Beard Dallas store is located in Highland Park Village. Highland Park Village is America’s first shopping center, and the prototype for shopping centers all over the country. This unique Mediterranean, Spanish-style development was constructed in 1931. According to the Urban Land Institute, Highland Park Village was the first planned shopping center in the United States with a unified architectural style and stores facing in toward an interior parking area, all built and managed under a single ownership. The store was absolutely stunning, and the decor hinted at Texas’ wild west past. We partnered with Karla McKinley, Kacy Tolleson, and Krystal Schlegel, a local Dallas blogger, to host the Dallas Trunk Show. Madison is from Dallas, TX, so we felt truly at home and loved meeting new customers.
New York City Visit
The Veronica Beard New York City store is located in the heart of Soho. Soho is an area in New York City which consists of designer boutiques, fancy chain stores and high-end art galleries, so this makes SoHo a top shopping destination, especially for out-of-towners. Known for its elegant cast-iron-facades and cobblestone streets, the neighborhood is a hub for fashionable crowds clustering at high-end restaurants and nightlife hotspots. We partnered with Gaby Cohen, Jessica Jones, and Alden King to host the New York City Trunk Show. We adore New York City and loved stopping by for the weekend.
ABOUT KRISTEN:
Kristen was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, I currently calls Austin her home. She has always been passionate about Fine Art and Photography, which in the end, made choosing her degree so simple. In December of 2012, she graduated from Texas Christian University receiving her BFA with an emphasis in photography, which launched her career in the Arts.
Her unfailing inspiration comes from light, as it is the key component of her work. She loves the emotion and mood that light can evoke through a single image, which is why she chose to specialize in natural light photography. While her work consists of both film and digital images, she prefers to shoot film in permitting light conditions. The romantic, soft and airy looks of the medium just can’t be beat. The processes involved with film photography allow for a rich and timeless result- film can truly make a moment last a lifetime.
Whether it is film or digital, her utmost desire is to capture each individual’s spirit and personality, while giving life to each photograph, and of course, having fun in the process!
MADISON MCKINLEY #MMCOWGIRL INTERVIEW:
1. What is your favorite Madison McKinley jewelry piece your own and why?
This is a tough one because there is no right answer! I am a lover of each unique design from Madison McKinley’s collection. To me, you cannot escape the fact that she is handcrafting these stunning pieces from her own studio nestled on the ranch. To be surrounded by those “office views” is truly a dream! If I *had* to narrow down one piece I am particularly fond of the Comanche Necklace. Whenever I wear this piece I never want to take it off. Makes such a statement!
2. What is your favorite Summer vacation spot? Tell us your favorite spots in the area!
If we are talking summer destination spot, then I would have to go with anywhere on the Amalfi Coast. My favorite spots in the area would be anywhere I can be outdoors and my go to spot is, Hico, Texas. Here you’ll find me in the horse pasture!
3. What is your favorite way to style your Madison McKinley Jewelry?
Jeans + white top!
4. What is your favorite go to everyday outfit?
At this point it feels fail proof that I always end up in my vintage Levi's and a tee shirt. I'm all about cute comfort!
5. What is your favorite cowboy hat?
My beige Stetson!
6. What is your favorite go to cowboy boot company?
I'm a Frye girl, but for riding you will only catch me in Ariats!
7. English riding or western riding?
I grew up riding English and did competitive Three Day Eventing for as long as I can remember. I used to put my english saddles on our ranch horses, but riding in an english saddle around the ranch just wasn't the same as the dressage ring! So now I seem to be riding western more often than not!
8. Are you a wrangler girl or a levi girl?
Levis 100%. I might even have to name my next dog “Levi” as an ode to the brand. They are so good!
9. Horse or donkey lol?
As much as I love donkeys because of their cartoon like features and quirky characteristics, the answer is without a doubt horses. I truly believe being a horse lover is innate. I was born into this world desiring anything equine related and the obsession only grows more each day.😬
10. Spurs or no spurs?
I lived in spurs during my eventing days. My show horse was an Irish TB, fresh off the tracks. He wasn't qualified to race due to his slow pace but made an excellent presence in the dressage ring! Needless to say this gentle giant wasn't moving anywhere without spurs! So spurs!
11. How do you take your coffee?
Black with steamed almond milk, and on special occasions cream and honey!
12. What is in your travel jewelry bag?
I always pack thin gold rings, dainty gold necklaces and my gold hoops + my MM staples!
13. What is your go to lip balm?
Petal by Fresh. This color looks so natural and moisturizes better than most!
14. Tell us why you love fashion/arts and give us a taste of your style!
I love the play of color, composition and the balance of good design. As a photographer, my job requires me to constantly be thinking about the fusion of these elements, which in return gives me such an appreciation for fashion. Fashion is creative, personal and requires bringing together different components to create a unified/cohesive end result. I love pattern play, color theory and the way art history has affected so much of the fashion you see today.
15. What is your career choice and why?
I feel so fortunate to be pursing my passion. In college I bounced around from different majors but never felt peace about any of them until I discovered the BFA program at TCU. This revelation of discovering you can have a career in the arts was life defining for me.
16. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years I will have (hopefully) produced several equine series Fine Art books. Im currently in the works of my first ever coffee table book and plan to release this by 2018.
17. Where did you go to college and what was your major?
I went to TCU and couldn't have loved my college experience anymore than I did. I majored in studio art with an emphasis in Photography. Throughout my training we spent so many hours in the studio, but also in the books endlessly studying art history.
18. What’s the best advice you ever received?
To fully know your target audience and who you are as a brand. Thank you Taylor Lord for the endless advice you have given me over the years!
19. What would be your ideal working environment?
For me, I like to shake up my work environment to constantly stay inspired and keep my eyes fresh. Luckily, my job keeps life in motion for me, but I dream of working from a studio with incredible natural lighting. Somewhere I can set up still lives and play with light & props.
20. What is the best horse name
I have always loved the name "Hawks Honor", but I'm biased because Hawk was my last show horse. Our pasture ponies in Hico are Moe and Duster. We have a ranch rule that the horses come with the names from their previous homes.
We love the way Kristen styled her Madison McKinley jewls! Here a few images from Kristen's journey in South Africa wearing her Madison McKinley Jewels!
All the love,
The Madison McKinley Team
